Recommended layering for low mountain hikes in winter
2024.12.17
Hello. This is the staff of Chofu Parco.
The other day, I posted about layering here, but this time, I would like to introduce winter layering by situation in the item at Chofu Parco store more specifically.
By the way, here, gears such as hats, gloves, mountain climbing shoes are excluded.
This time it is a low mountain version.
(Assumed mountain area: Mt. Takao, Mount Odake, etc.)
Underwear Millet / Drynamic Mesh
Base layer: The North Face
"The North Face" by Alpine Light Pants
Even in winter, in low mountains, you sweat when you walk. Due to stagnation and changes in the weather, winter is more likely to cause sweat cooling than summer. Therefore, risk management for hypothermia is quite important.
Under drynamic has a high ability to keep sweat from the skin, and also has a function to maintain body temperature. It is a layering that moves sweat from the skin to the base layer, but it has a high sweat processing capacity and does not make you feel cold sweat.
The pants are alpine light pants, a typical medium-thick model with stretchy effect. In the low mountains of this season, I think the thickness is just right.
Middle layer karrimor/thermal half-zip
It is recommended to wear a thin fleece, such as a small break or when you feel cold in the forest zone during action. This Karrimor fleece is lightweight and has high breathability and moderate heat retention, so it is comfortable even during action.
Insulation Marmot / 750FP Prime Down Jacket
In the event of a long break or stagnation, such as lunch, it is necessary to wear warm clothes. This Marmot down can be stored compactly and has enough heat retention. Because it is water-repellent finish on the down, it is difficult for the heat insulation to decrease if it gets slightly wet. Due to its moderate thickness, it can be used for both outerwear and innerwear, depending on the temperature, you can wear the outer layer outside.
Outer Layer MILLET by Typhon Warm Nx St JKT PANT
Rainwear is essential because the weather is easier to change compared to the flat land. This model, which was renewed this year, has a slightly raised lining, and has a higher heat retention capacity than those for summer. However, because it has high moisture permeability to escape the group inside, it keeps the environment inside clothes comfortable.
In my personal opinion, I think that the low mountain in winter is the scene where wear is most often taken off because it does not cause sweat cooling. Since it is necessary to make fine adjustments such as subtle adjustments during action, it is important to devise gloves and neck gaitors to maintain body temperature. Please refer to here and look for a comfortable layering that suits your body.
We have a wide variety of clothes at our shop. If you have any concerns, the staff will guide you. Please come and feel free to contact us.
