▪️PRIMALOFT

Probably the most famous material of synthetic fiber batting is this primaloft. The U.S. military commissioned a company to develop a heat insulating material that replaces down, and was born. It is different from the down.

・Benefits
Even if we get wet, it is hard to reduce heat retention. It can also be used for behavioral wear.
Washable in washing machine, easy to care. It's easy to use without worry.

・Demerit

The heat retention force per weight is inferior to down, so it is often heavier than down.

Because it does not break down than down, it is slightly bulky and inferior to carry.

Because the use varies depending on the type, there is a little knowledge to choose.


The strength is that it can be used in various scenes from break to action. Even if we get wet, the heat retention capacity is hard to decrease, and it is breathable compared to down, so it can be used even in rainy weather or in snowy mountains. In addition, there are various types, and you can choose according to your application. I think that we often choose synthetic cotton when climbing with a lot of activity that sweats well and climbing with a lot of risk of getting wet like snowy mountains. It can be washed with washing machine, so you can use it without hesitation.

However, since the heat retention force of the material itself is inferior to the down, the more the amount of batting increases, the more the weight tends to be heavy and bulky. Therefore, it is inferior to down in portableity. Recently, materials with performance close to down have come out, but as a heat insulating wear during a break, the army is rising down.

Below are the characteristics of the material. First, there are three types of grades.

Silver → Standard grade. It can be combined with water repellent, heat insulation, and ventilation. It's a standard with no special drawbacks. It is mainly used for mountain climbing wear here or gold.

Black → There is no water repellent compared to silver. The heat retention and ventilation do not change much. It is inexpensive and is mainly used for small items such as town wear, gloves, and neck gaitors.

Gold → Highest grade with fine fibers and high compressibility and heat retention. It is a board-like material and is not independent, so it is difficult to jump out even if it is broken. It is often used for mountain climbing wear, such as Bi Raper Cars.

The price is also in the order of black <silver <gold. Basically, you may choose silver or gold wear, but there are several types of gold.

Gold Insert Thermopleum
→It is a material that imitates down feathers and has a heat retention capacity equivalent to 550FPs. Of course, it is resistant to wet. I tried on the wear made of this material, but since it is quite close to down and lightweight, it seems to be quite easy to use.

Gold Insertation Croscore
→It is a model with aerogel resin material added to the gold material to further enhance heat retention. The heat retention capacity is nearly 50% higher than the normal model.


Gold Insertivity
→It has high breathability and retains heat retention, but does not impair breathability. It is often used for active insultation.
